KEJAYAAN AS SHEIKH AL JUBURI


KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - Two former aides and several senior politicians allied to former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have more than 300 companies, some listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, to their credit. Some of them had openly echoed the allegation of cronyism, nepotism and collusion championed by the former Umno Youth chief Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the June Umno general assembly, and later by Anwar following his removal from the Cabinet and Umno. Topping the list is Datuk Nasaruddin Jalil, who was Anwar’s private secretary when he served as Education Minister.


A Registrar of Companies listing obtained by the New Straits Times/Berita Harian, identifies him with 112 companies, including some listed on the KLSE. The listing dated Nov 21 identifies Nasaruddin as director of such companies as Permodalan Negri Selangor Berhad, Chok, Ghazali & Zul Sdn Bhd, Sistem Sewa Kereta Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Inpen (Selangor) Sdn Bhd, Gadek (Malaysia) Bhd, Diversified Resources Berhad, Konsortium LTAT SBG Charterbridge Sdn Bhd, Credit Corporation (Malaysia) Bhd; Konsortium Kenanga (M) Sdn Bhd, Asia Pacific Airlines (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Kolej Unitek, Emile Woolf Sdn Bhd and Cartarama Group. It is, however, understood that Nasaruddin had retired from some of the companies, including Gadek. The 44-year-old Nasaruddin, who once served a vice-president of the MBf Group, was listed as shareholder of 48 companies with shareholdings ranging from nominal one share to over five million. Among them were Duta Resources Sdn Bhd (5,520,900 shares), Triumph Land Sdn Bhd (5,550,00), Charterbridge Sdn Bhd (1,999,999), Cartarama Sdn Bhd (1,750,000), Wong Heng Engineering Sdn Bhd (510,000) and Cartarama Natams Sdn Bhd (700,000).Anwar’s former political secretary, Datuk Sarit Yusoh, was listed as a director of 80 companies, including several KLSE-listed companies. Sarit is the State Assemblyman for Semantan in Pahang and executive chairman for KFC (Holdings) Malaysia Bhd.His other corporate entities include Wembley Industries Holdings Berhad, KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd, Leader Mutiara Sdn Bhd, Grand Synergy Sdn Bhd, Roaster’s Chicken Sdn Bhd, Mid Valley City Sdn Bhd, Ayamas Food Corporation Bhd, Mezzanine Two Thousand Ventures Bhd, Grand Care Sdn Bhd, Grand Ultimate Sdn Bhd, Goh Ban Huat Bhd, Malayawata Steel Bhd and Khee San Bhd. He had shares in 14 companies including Pangkal Melati Sdn Bhd (4,250,000 shares), Leader Mutiara Sdn Bhd (2,500,000), Grand Ultimate (999,999), Grand Care Sdn Bhd (720,000), Kemudi Bangsawan Sdn Bhd (500,000) and IQSS Holdings Sdn Bhd (305,000).



The 47-year-old politician-cum-businessman captured the headlines in 1995 when he was identified as one of those involved in the KFC boardroom tussle.Another Anwar ally, Datuk Ahmad Saad, who turns 48 tomorrow, was identified as director of 53 companies including several listed entities. Among the companies identified with Ahmad are Rumpun Hijau CorporationSdn Bhd, Federal Auto Holdings Bhd, Aman Securities Sdn Bhd, Destria Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Carbonless Industries Sdn Bhd, United Tread Sdn Bhd, Jemco Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Assay Office Sdn Bhd. He is identified as shareholder of 15 companies including Usaha Kerdau (399,999 shares), R H Industries Sdn Bhd (280,000) and AU Metalvest (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (200,000). Ahmad is the State Assemblyman for Permatang Pasir in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency. He is the deputy head of Permatang Pauh Umno division.He was former chairman of Batek Malaysia and a former Penang Umno Youth leader.


He is also chairman of the Penang Water Authority, executive chairman of Rumpun Hijau and chairman of Federal Auto Holdings Bhd and Northern Waste Industries Consortium.NWIC is one of four companies appointed by the Government to manage solid waste management disposal. It comprises of Rumpun Hijau (40 per cent) Wagon Engineering, MHES, Zamrud Maju and Maju Egatt (10 per cent each).The remaining shares are divided equally among Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis.Businessman and Senator Datuk Ghazi Ramli, 56, was identified as director of 43 companies and had shareholding in 10. Among companies which list Ghazi as their director are Indah Water Consortium Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Group Berhad, Malaysia-Arab Trade Investment Council, Barisan Properties Sdn Bhd, AIMS Solutions Sdn Bhd and Inai Jaya Sdn Bhd.Records also show that Ghazi has 24,990,000 shares in AIMS Worldwide (M) Sdn Bhd. Former Negri Sembilan Umno Youth chairman, Ruslan Kassim, who was recently released from Internal Security Act detention is identified as director and/or shareholder of 50 companies. They include Inspen Holding (M) Sdn Bhd, APM Industries Sdn Bhd, President Hotel Sdn Bhd and Aman Yakin Sdn Bhd. Former journalist turned politician, Ruhanie Ahmad, was listed as a director of 42 companies. The 51-year-old two-term Parit Sulong MP was identified with Anwar in the early days of his ouster from the Cabinet and Umno.


Ruhanie’s companies (KUDA KEPANG BLOGGER) are involved in such activities as transportation, telecommunications and media, agriculture, retail trade and financial services.Among the companies which list him as director are Seaport Terminal (Johore) Sdn Bhd, Ekspress Nasional Berhad, KUB Malaysia Berhad, Padiberas Nasional Berhad, Tele Dynamics Sendirian Berhad, Sriwani Trading Sdn Bhd, CN Asia Corporation Bhd, Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd and Romedia Communications Sdn Bhd. Ruhanie, who is Mara chairman, is listed as shareholder in five companies namely Benarkon Sdn Bhd (45,000 shares), Romedia Communications Sdn Bhd (25,000) Astaka Asli Sdn Bhd (24,999), Panca Kilat Sdn Bhd (5,000) and More Productions Sdn Bhd (three).
